The Cookie Theory

I eat the crispy bits first. Not because they are my favorite part but that once they are all gone I get the soft middle. I deal with the crumbs and might even soften everything with milk. I don’t particularly like these parts but they must be eaten before you can really enjoy the cookie. They might crumble or maybe not have a middle worth the work. But I will always reach for another, i’ve had too many good cookies to have this one ruin everything. Yet was it even just one, when i’ve had to say those words a million times? I reach back into the jar hoping it was like i had once had. Warm. chewy, inviting, melting in my mouth just how i think it should be. But how will I know that it is a “good” cookie when they all look so delicious? That’s why I take a hesitant bite of just the edges. And usually those are crunchy so i don’t have high hopes. Once i reach the last crunchy bit I reach almost a level of anxiety because now it’s time too see, are you soft or crunchy? Most cookies are just okay, not life changing. But being blessed with an amazing cookie will change your perception. But also curse you into looking for that one cookie in every other cookie, always comparing others to it.
